Vedel's Arrival in Spain
Hasta la fecha se desconocen tanto las circunstancias como el momento exacto que llevaron a Pierres Vedel a establecerse en España. Es posible que su llegada se produjera a través del paso de Roncesvalles, una de las principales vías de comunicación entre Navarra y los territorios franceses.
Lo que sí sabemos es que ya se encontraba en la Península antes de 1543, año en que aparece por primera vez en la documentación conservada. Su nombre figura entonces en la localidad navarra de Oricín, donde participó en la tasación de unas obras ejecutadas por otro maestro constructor. Por aquellas mismas fechas contrajo matrimonio con Clara Vizcarret, quien habría de acompañarle durante toda su trayectoria profesional y en los numerosos desplazamientos que realizó posteriormente por tierras aragonesas.
To date, neither the exact circumstances nor the precise moment that led Pierres Vedel to settle in Spain are known. It is possible that he entered the country through the Roncesvalles Pass, one of the principal routes linking Navarre with the French territories.
What we do know is that he was already in the Iberian Peninsula before 1543, the year in which he first appears in the surviving documentary records. His name is mentioned in the Navarrese village of Oricáin, where he took part in the appraisal of works carried out by another master builder. Around the same time, he married Clara Vizcarret, who would accompany him throughout his professional career and during the many journeys he later undertook across Aragon.
