Pierres Vedel, a Familiar of the Holy Office
Una faceta tan curiosa como poco conocida de la vida de Pierres Vedel sale a la luz gracias a un proceso judicial de 1608. El documento revela que, durante su estancia en Santa Eulalia del Campo, el arquitecto navarro fue nombrado familiar del Santo Oficio de la Inquisición de Valencia, una distinción que le otorgaba determinados privilegios y reconocimiento social dentro de la comunidad.
“...que viviendo y edificando la dicha iglesia de Sancta Olalla el dicho quondam mase Pierres Vedel fue diputado en familiar del sancto oficio de la inquisición de Valencia en el dicho lugar y la misma familiatura y privilegio después de algunos años le fue confirmado por dicho sancto oficio...”
A curious and little-known aspect of Pierres Vedel's life comes to light through a judicial proceeding dated 1608. The document reveals that, while living and working in Santa Eulalia del Campo, the Navarrese architect was appointed a Familiar of the Holy Office of the Inquisition of Valencia, a distinction that granted him certain privileges and social prestige within the community.
